CREATIVE WRITING Club - Spring Session
SPECIAL END-OF-YEAR PRICING
This 8-week club session is brought to you by former Cold Spring Elementary teacher, Nate Madden.
This club will take place on Mondays, 3:40-4:40pm.
Dates: 4/13; 4/20; 4/27; 5/4; 5/11; 5/18; 6/1; 6/8
Participants will receive in-depth instruction on creating vibrant, quality stories. This will support students in their school narrative assignments, as well as encourage their personal passion for creative writing. This course is perfect for kids who simply love to write or are looking to improve their writing skills, and even those who intend to pursue a writing career in the future.
PARTICIPATION IN THIS CLUB ALSO INCLUDES A SPECIAL VISIT AND Q&A SESSION WITH MARYLAND STATE AWARD-WINNER AND NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR, ROSEANNE A. BROWN. She will join in-person to discuss her work on her various published works and share her insights and encouragements with the students.
Week 1: Brainstorming & Journaling Strategies
Week 2: Outlines & Organizer Planning
Week 3: Character Development Techniques
Week 4: Setting Development Techniques
Week 5: Sensory & Emotional Writing, Vivid Vocabulary, & Figurative Language
Week 6: Simple & Complex Plot Structure Formats
Week 7: Revising & Editing Tips
Week 8: In-Person Visit with Roseanne A. Brown
Participants must be in grades 3-5.
The class takes place in a school classroom immediately following dismissal.
Each participant will receive the following:
Professional instruction from a certified teacher with a Master’s degree and 10+ years of classroom experience
New lined writing notebook
New writing materials (pencils, erasers, pens)
Reference sheets for continued practice outside of club time
1 brand new novel as a gift for participating
